Our 1st Home Ed Group - Pony Lessons - Lesson 3 (YB)

Today's lesson was another one Marley really enjoyed!

They started by learning how to muck out the stables today, this was quite good as it gave him a good opportunity to talk to his new friends too and work together 💩

As always, this was followed by an hour or riding too and he's definitely getting the hang of it now 🐴

Our 1st Home Ed Group - Pony Lessons - Lesson 2 (YB)

Well, this week, Paul took Marley to his lesson as I woke up feeling really not good 😩

Again, he had a really good time. He got to groom a pony and properly interact with it before his 1 hour riding session 🐴

He also made more effort to start talking to a couple of the other kids which was really good.

Euro 2020 Themed Food - Part 1 - Fyllda Ägghalvor - Sweden 🇸🇪 (YB)

As part of our home education, I think cooking & baking skills are invaluable and also help teach measuring & the use of maths.

As you all know, we also very much love our football and so in line with both of these, we decided to make some Euro 2020 themed foods together.

So today, we started with Fyllda Ägghalvor (filled egg halves) from Sweden 🇸🇪

Our 1st Home Ed Group - Pony Lessons - Lesson 1 (YB)

I've been reluctant to do anything out of the home with Marley that involved meeting/being around other people.

But I set up a local home education group on Facebook to try and set up some group sessions as I wanted Marley to have that experience and make new friends.

I also wanted to have my own group as well as joining ones that were already round, so I could have interactions with the places offering the groups so I could feel reassured about social distancing and covid measures.

So I managed to set up a group session for 10 children with Park Palace Ponies. It's a 2 hour session once a week costing £15.

Today, Marley (and me!) got to learn all about the body parts of a pony and how they are looked after day to day followed by a 1 hour riding lesson 🐴

We had a meltdown before going as he had convinced himself he definitely didn't want to do it despite being really enthusiastic prior to the day. I think anxiety just set in about doing something new and interacting with new kids (something he has never been good at). But we got there and he really, really enjoyed it and kept talking enthusiastically about it all the way home and then enthusiastically told his Dad and big brother all about it.

He didn't really chat to any of the other kids, but did manage an hello and goodbye which is a big deal for him.

He is looking forward to next week's lesson!

Making An Atlas - KiwiCo - Home Ed Activities

Today, as part of our home education, we built an atlas from the KiwiCo subscription that we thought we'd try out. It came with the atlas to build, as well as interesting fact cards, a world map and a book full of interesting information about different countries around the world that you can literally pretend you're going on an adventure to these places!

If you'd like $10 (approx. £7) off your first subscription box, just visit their website - KiwiCo.

Strawberry Vanilla Slices - Little Cooks Co - Home Ed Activities (YB)

Today, we made strawberry vanilla slices. I decided to try out a subcription with Little Cooks Co which could potentially form part of our home education activities each month.

If you'd like to give them a go, use my referral code REF9F9JY378GY at the Little Cooks Co website to get 50% off your first order.

I wasn't sure how much he'd enjoy it, but he loves baking together and he was able to do a lot of this himself.

You might wonder how baking is educational. Well, as well as being a valuable life skill, it gives children an opportunity to work on their maths skills figuring out weights and learning to measure for example.

Anyway, he actually enjoyed chopping up the strawberries - it was the first time I'd independently let him chop stuff.

He enjoyed adding and mixing the ingredients...

And enjoyed setting it up in the dish ready to go in the oven.

In fact, the only thing he couldn't do, was put it in and take it out of the oven.

And he really enjoyed eating it!

Making Chocolate Cupcakes & Honeycomb (YB)

Well today, I made chocolate cupcakes with Marley. We haven't baked anything in a while so he was made up. They tasted delicious! 🧁

Afterwards, I decided to have a go at making honeycomb, first ever try. It came out OK, not perfect by any means but I think I did alright! 🐝
