REVIEW: Yutaka Sushi Kit For 2 (YB)

I was sent a Yutaka Sushi Kit For 2 to review here on my blog...

The kit is actually intended for 2 people, but we decided to make it as a family and include our 11 year old son, David, as I'm quite a small eater anyway, so there was more than enough for all of us.

The kit included everything except the fillings - so it contained the nori, sushi rice, sushi vinegar, wasabi paste, soy sauce, ginger and of course, the sushi rolling mat.

We all enjoy sushi, so we were really looking forward to making it ourselves for the first time and it's really not as difficult as it seems!

We had to cook the sushi rice, then add the sushi vinegar and allow it to cool. This took around XX mins.

Next, we just had to make the sushi. We had to put the nori (seaweed) on the sushi rolling mat and then add a relatively thin layer of sushi rice onto it, leaving a centimetre or two at the top and bottom so there was space to seal it.

There were two sheets of nori, so me and David used one to make some together and Paul (my husband) used the other to make his as he is vegetarian anyway, so he had different fillings to us.

Me and David chose to have cucumber, sweet red pepper and prawns in ours. We added the fillings together. I did the rolling, however, and I didn't do too bad a job for my first ever sushi-making experience! Then we just had to cut the sushi roll into 8 pieces. It was really much quicker, easier and fun than we thought it would be.

Paul just had the cucumber and sweet pepper for fillings in his sushi roll, like myself and David, he thought it was nice and quick to make too.

We served them along with the wasabi and soy sauce. And also the ginger (which I actually can't stand!) which is intended to cleanse the palette between eating.

If you're a fan of sushi, or would like to try sushi, or simply enjoy trying new foods and making them as a couple or a family, you should definitely give this a go. It was a lot of fun and it was very satisfying to have made it myself instead of buying it in the supermarket.

  1. I do my own too using Yutaka products - no wasabi for me though! Too hot! My fave is using chopped up prawns with a bit of mayo - just delicious! Enjoy! x
